When you are ordering standard wheels – all we require is the outside diameter and how many teeth. We will supply a suitable wheel of an equally suitable thickness.

For non standard wheels we will adjust to your specifications.

Should you wish to go into calculations in more depth – the following (From the leaflet of P.P. Thornton Ltd.) will be most helpful.

 

Calculation of Module

                                   

                                    Pitch circle diameter in millimetres (D)

Module M =                 Number of teeth in wheel or pinion leaves (N)

 

                                    Twice the centre distance in Millimetres

Also  M =                    Sum of teeth in wheel and pinion

Calculation of Blank Diameter

 

Blank diameter = Module X (N + Addendum allowance)

With the addendum allowance a module can still be found even when the centre distance is not known.

 

Module =         Tip diameter

                        N + Addendum allowance.

Pinions

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We produce a range of Pinions as both stubs and arbours. The stubs are suitable for drilling and mounting on other arbours. The Arbours are long enough for long cased clocks and the length at the pinion end are generous enough for most scape or gather arbours. Material used is EN8DM.

    Standard ranges are .55 to .95 module in 6, 7 and 8-leaf.
Pinions outside this range can be supplied at a small extra cost.

Pinion stubs only £15.00 each
Arbours are £20.00 each

Fusee clock centre arbour £23.50

Longcase Centre arbour £25.00

For the verge or high quality bracket clock - we ae able to cut pinions fom silver steel. Please contact Peter for details.

Post and packing on all wheel & pinion orders is £2 UK and EU - £3 US and Canada.
